What our labels mean
A submitted account is an allegation or testimony, not a finding of guilt. Nye Voices uses plain-language labels so readers can distinguish what was submitted from what has been independently established.
Firsthand account
Submitted by a person representing that they personally experienced the events described.
Documentation reviewed
Nye Voices reviewed material that bears on one or more portions of the account.
Corroborating information
Independent information materially overlaps portions of the submitted account.
Public record confirmed
A relevant government, court, or other public record was located.
Official action
A documented investigation, charge, disciplinary action, judicial finding, or similar official action exists.
Unverified
Nye Voices has not independently substantiated material portions of the account.
Unverified does not mean false. Verified does not mean every allegation has been proven.
Naming people publicly
Providing a person's name in a private submission does not automatically mean that name will be published. Serious identifying allegations require additional editorial review, and higher-risk publication decisions may require legal review.
