Why I started Nye Voices

Don Hinton — Founder

I did not start this because I wanted to create another social-media page for accusations. I started it because people began coming to me and telling me things they were afraid to say publicly.

As more people reached out, it became clear that some wanted to be heard without putting their name on Facebook, some wanted their story preserved without making it public, and some were willing to speak with investigators outside the agencies they did not trust.

People who know me know that I have been outspoken about accountability in Nye County. I am not hiding that, and I am not pretending to be neutral about whether serious allegations deserve to be examined.

But Nye Voices has to be bigger than my opinions. A report is not proof of guilt. Someone being accused does not make an accusation true. The purpose of this project is to give people a place to speak, preserve what they tell us, distinguish allegations from verified information, and let them make meaningful choices about their identity and what happens next.

If this works the way I intend it to, the person sharing their story—not me—remains the center of the process.
